OUR STORY

What if there was a show that wasn’t for show? What if there was a show that really was about bringing people together to hear good music that was free? We are passionate as a group about creating a safe space that is accessible to the community to be exposed to new artists and for the performing artists to be crowdfunded at each show.

Not a Show came to CJ as an idea in early 2023 after the realization while performing at shows that there were too many local shows that did not put artists and community at the forefront. Not long after, she had a conversation in her art studio with colleagues and friends, JayPushFaders and Chaniya Tingley about it and Not a Show was born. We like to think of our events as a show that’s “not a show.” It’s about the music.

Meet the

Not A Show Team

Photographer & Videographer
Tayla, owner of Cloud TEN Photography, is the resident photographer who documents each show. Tayla is a supporter of the arts and does more than photography; she captures moments. There is no one who does it better! As part of Not a Show, we send these performance and crowd photos to the artists so that they can then in turn use those photos to promote themselves and their artistry.

Social Media Manager and Cofounder
Niya is the mastermind behind our Instagram and other social media platforms. Her attention to detail, proclivity to networking and eye for aesthetics make her a perfect fit for being the face behind our page! She makes sure we keep our page active, aesthetically pleasing and interactive for artists and showgoers alike.

Sonic Architect and Cofounder
JayPushFaders is the sonic visionary behind the scenes of Not A Show. As the sound manager and logistical wizard, Jay navigates the intricacies of sound system placement and artist set DJing, transforming each performance into an unforgettable experience at the intersection of sound and creativity.

Curator, Artist Relations and Cofounder
CJ Monét is the curator for Not a Show. She finds artists in the community and goes through submissions to curate each show so that each has a unique blend of artists, both established and up-and-coming. As a visual artist, she also does all the flyers and graphics for shows and coordinates with artists for shows.
